Light Painting – Mudhens

Dave Black is a fairly famous sports photographer who taught at PhotoshopWorld the last time I was there. On his website he has a monthly tutorial/article called Workshop at the Ranch where he talks about Light Painting. Basically, its shooting a scene in a completely dark environment, with a long exposure. You use a small light source, like an LED flashlight, to highlight different aspects of your scene while moving the light around like you were painting. It sounds easy, and the concept is, but the execution takes a lot of practice!

One scene I came up with was the one below, using some Toledo Mudhens clothing and an old baseball glove. The ball is actually from a Mudhens game, that I got after it went over the wall. This was something like my 20th attempt with this scene! The exposure was for 30 seconds at f/8.
